The Rustic Outdoor or Farm Wedding

There’s just something beautiful about escaping from the chaos and rat race of life and taking in the fresh air outside. The same can be said in finding the space for celebrating your wedding day with friends and family.

Due in part to the fresh air and the swoon worthy images found online (on sites like Pinterest), many brides are turning to farms and barns for their wedding venue and the source of inspiration for their big day. The simplistic and rustic energy of a farm presents numerous opportunities for the bride, groom, and their guests to celebrate in the great outdoors and decorate in rustic chic and country elegant styles. With decorations ranging from mason jars and cafe lighting to straw bales and wildflowers, engaged couples are turning to farms for wedding inspiration and conversely, farmers are turning to weddings as additional sources of business income. Even if you aren’t near a farm, outdoor and backyard weddings are currently huge trends in the wedding and event market, as well.

Contrasting traditional banquet halls, the expansive landscape offered on farm land creates a unique venue that offers the opportunity to share in a farm to table experience with your friends and family. Imagine sharing local cheese made right on the dairy farm as part of the hor devours during cocktail hour. According to Good Morning America, more cattle and dairy farmers with available land and beautiful scenery are offering to rent their land for pending nuptials due to a high volume of demand. Loverly, an online inspiration and bookmarking site for wedding planning, has cited that searches for “dairy farms” has increased by over 20 percent in the last two months than the previous two months, so it seems like the trend will continue into far into 2014.

Outdoor ceremonies also present the opportunity to have the ceremony and reception on one venue site, without requiring you or your guests to arrange transportation between each event. It allows for seamless transitions from the ceremony to cocktail hour to the reception (and possibly a reduction in stress for the newlyweds). Another advantage with being outside is the ability to set up yard games like bocce ball, cornhole and croquet. This setting allows for a family friendly event for kids to have a bit more freedom to run and enjoy your wedding versus a more traditional affair that isn’t as accommodating for children, while still allowing for a gorgeous setting and comfortable atmosphere.
